Welcome to the Tennis Widows League website
The Tennis Widows League (TWL) is a ladies doubles tennis league which was set up some years ago by a group of ladies who had an interest in playing regular tennis. As one or two players had tennis courts it was easy and flexible to arrange a match between them. Before they knew it the ladies were soon encouraging new players to join in and from there it grew. Starting off with one division and then progressing very quickly to three suddenly the demand for a fourth was needed. As the standard of tennis improved over the years, a Premier division has been added making a total of five divisions.
TWL hold a list of Pool players who are called upon throughout the season to assist with the smooth running of the matches. The Pool players play in place of a league member, who may, for various reasons, be unable to play for one or more matches. The TWL Committee welcome new players of any standard to apply for Pool player and league players. Your details are held upon a waiting list and you will be contacted in early spring if spaces are available. Upon joining TWL as a league player and paying your subscription, your matches are scheduled for you with a court, all you have to do is turn up and play and notify the designated person of your scores. A friendly Division Representative is available to assist you with any queries.
Our league season usually begins in April and ends at the end of July with a scheduled match every week. Our matches are arranged on privately owned tennis courts which have been offered to us for the season on a Wednesday evening. The TWL League is most grateful to all court owners for their generosity and welcome new courts to the list.
We always end the season with an Awards Event which is very popular among members and friends. This event has been a huge part of the Tennis Widows League since it began.
